Why are Organic Insecticides “Effective?”
October 15th, 2008 Posted in Green Living & News, Organic & Chemical Pesticides
With most everyone and everything jumping on the “green” wagon these days (most recently Project Runway went eco-friendly), people are becoming more and more aware of how their actions directly impact the environment. However, some people might be skeptical of “green” tactics, brushing off the practices as “just a fad” and waiting for the trend to pass once these strategies prove ineffective.

This article will discuss:
- Concerns about “organic”
- How organic insecticides work
- Reputable scientific advisory panel
- User feedback
- Building Industry Buzz
Concerns about “Organic”
The use of organic bug spray is a method many are reluctant to get on board with because of the fear they won’t work as well as conventional (and more toxic) insecticides, which have been the only real proven technique for the past forty fifty years.
However, with the deadly toxicity data concerns outweighing the pros of some conventional insecticides, people are anxious for a new wave in the fight against pests: organic insecticides that are both effective and healthy toward our ecosystem. Many organic pesticide brands claim to be both, but only EcoSMART products have proven to work successfully as well as aid in creating a safer environment.
Founded in 1993, EcoSMART Technologies Inc. is a pioneer in the use of organic pesticides. Because of companies like EcoSMART, the organic pesticides trade is a burgeoning, growing industry — similar to the very plants its trying to save. While not necessarily commonplace yet, organic pesticides are the wave of the future to save the future.

How They Work
Containing all-natural ingredients, EcoSMART’s blend of plant oils blocks a neurotransmitter unique to insects. This means that unlike conventional insecticides, EcoSMART products are harmless to people, animals, and the environment.
Also, unlike synthetic pesticides, when EcoSMART ingredients are put into the environment they do not leave any pesticide residue.
Try EcoSMART products yourself to see them in action!
Reputable Scientific Advisory Panel
Proving the scientific studies aren’t a bunch of hogwash, EcoSMART backs up their research with six highly-regarded professors and scientists that make up their Scientific Advisory Panel. These aren’t just people who want to believe in organic pesticides; these are people who have seen the results.
Almost all of them hold doctorate degrees from outstanding universities. These researchers have decades of experience studying physical chemistry, agricultural entomology and toxicology, and environmental health.
Aside from the Scientific Advisory Panel, EcoSMART works closely with other universities and scientists to augment the performance of their products.
Extensive tests on organic pesticides have been conducted at the following learning institutions: University of California-Riverside, University of California-Davis, University of British Columbia, and the University of Georgia.

User Feedback
In 2005, Fred Valov, a pest control advisor in California, used EcoSMART’s ECOTROL product to control mites on 345 acres of land. The results proved to surpass all of his expectations.
Faced with time constraints, because the fruit on the land was ready to pick, Valov needed something fast-acting, with a zero re-entry interval and no pre- or post-harvest intervals. Not only did it work, but after 13 days, there was a marked increase in beneficial insects, contrary to the conventional insecticides Valov used on previous plots.
With people a little hesitant when applying new products (after all, in Valov’s case, a harvest was at stake), this success story is monumental in that organic insecticides proved their effectiveness and surpassed that of even conventional insecticides, all the while never polluting the environment.
Building Industry Buzz
In May of 2007, EcoSMART products went on sale at select Wal-Mart stores, placing them in the commercial mainstream. This action was significant because it added organic competition against conventional pesticides.
Now, before consumers reach for something conventional but potentially toxic, they have the option to be more environmentally-aware and safe.
Its emergence into the mainstream proves that people are taking notice of EcoSMART’s success and value, reflecting the efficiency of the product.

I heard somewhere that any and all types of pesticides are bad for children with ADHD combined with other ailments like my son has. I think that this organic pesticide is the way to go.
I have noticed over the years that my son’s health has been going down hill. His behaviors are becoming more and more aggressive and hyper despite the medications used to counter act them. I am certainly not a well to do person, because I to am disabled so we live on a very limited budget. But, when I can afford it I would like to use this product. If anyone has used it and noticed a difference in their childrens reactions or behaviors, please do let me know. This is very important to me.
Thank you very much.

I am interested in seeing if your organic persticides would work against green caterpillars on my broccoli and also be effective on the squash bugs that are attacking my zucchuni. I always try to go organic as I have small children and chickens that love to explore the gardens. I let nature usually take its course, and plant herbs around my veggies to try and deter the pests. I do not want to harm the beneficial insects that I have in my garden, but certain veggie plants suffer. I try and hand pick the pests as well. I am hoping your organic sprays are a good alternative to more healthy produce. Thanks.

We’ve been looking for an Eco Safe method to rid the house of ants and spiders. We have 8 retired show dogs, 1 cat and 2 African Grey parrots so we have to be very careful about what we use.

My adult children and I have a huge garden that is our summer mission. We provide food for a lot of people. This year seems to be a record year of damage to veggies. We hope to be qualified for testing your product so we can provide food to the needy.
