We have an invasion of carpenter ants, it has been a very wet spring and they seem to be everywhere, indoors and outdoors.

We also have insect/rodent issues including; ants (various), cluster flies to mice and chipmunks, any suggestions would be appreciated.

We are looking for an economical, safe, alternative to conventional insecticides.

We have done everything possible to keep the ants away from the house. My husband has sprayed areas around the house, that helped a short while. We much prefer an organic approach. We are starting a food garden, have grandchildren and dogs visiting. We tried Terro, to no avail. Help?

oh my god it's march and the big black ants are back again. They always seem to come in my bedroom and my daughters which are on the south side of our house. I am so creeped out when going to bed, because they crawl across my headboard. I am so mad i want to scream. Please help.

I noticed little black and tannish-brown dots in one corner of my home, where a counter meets a wall (dining room side of my kitchen). I believe these may be carpenter ants, although I never see ants - at all. It's very rare to even find a roach in my house, and I live in South Florida! I would love to be a product tester... Especially if the exterminator isn't taking care of this problem!

HI,
We've been having carpenter ant problems. We've been hearing things in between the walls at night and I just assumed it was mice. Now that I have read your site I am convinced it's the ants that are in the walls. They are invading my porch, basement and kitchen. Raid traps are garbage! I run a day home and have two small ones of my own and am willing to try anything as long as it's not harmful to my children or pets. Please HELP!!!

We bought a house in May of 2009 and (lucky us) inherited several colonies of carpenter ants!

I placed a desperate phone call to Orkin one night - not knowing at the time that we were immediately locked into a year long, $35/month contract. Having them come out every two months has seemed to eliminate the problem (we also cut down a branch that was hanging over the house), but we'd like to be able to use something that is not at all toxic to pets (we have a many!) and children. I'll let my husband know about this product when he gets home tonight!

Hi Stan and Charles,

This article has great advice about little things you can do around the home to deter ants from invading. For example, get rid of rotting wood and keeping all food in closed containers.

But to get rid of carpenter ants fast, EcoSMART's Ant and Roach Killer works great. You can spray it directly on the ants and any areas you commonly see them.

Our house has been plagued by carpenter ants in past years. We have been trying to eliminate moisture, wetness and branches touching the house. After replacing the roof and treating the exterior of our house with Termidor, we have had several years of no ants. Last summer, however, we began to see a fair amount of ants on the exterior and some on the interior of our home. We found Termidor to be very effective, but would prefer a non-toxic alternative. Would EcoSMART work for a long period (at least a few months) if only the exterior was treated? Is it important that EcoSMART be sprayed directly on the ants? I think this would be impossible for us to accomplish as the pathways the ants used in the past are mostly hidden from our view. We hope EcoSMART would meet our needs.
