How to Get Rid of Carpet Beetles

January 28th, 2009 Posted in Beetles & Ladybugs, Pantry & Linen Pests

Carpet Beetles like to make appearances inside your home, mainly on your carpet (obviously) and also on clothes and furniture.  Some have even been known to get into your food.  Although they form outside, their small size makes it easy to take up residence in your home.  They don’t sting, bite or carry disease. But that doesn’t mean they don’t cause damage: from larvae to adult, Carpet Beetles are a growing problem that require a safe, efficient solution.

This article will explain:

  • Identifying Carpet Beetles
  • Larvae vs. Adult
  • Dealing with Infestation

Identification

In nature, Carpet Beetles  plant themselves in nests of birds and rodents. But they are a fairly common pest in the home as well as businesses.  Although you may not spot them right away, they can leave a trail of evidence as to their presence.  Damaged carpeting, clothing, and also damage to your pet’s fur may be an indication that you have Carpet Beetles lurking in your home.  And how did they get there?  Carpet Beetles can enter your home through open windows and doors, tiny cracks, and even attach themselves to your clothing.  Once inside, they avoid light, and go to work munching on your favorite sweater. But they’ll venture almost anwhere in your home for items cotaining natural animal fibers such as wool, lint, silk, dust, bristles, and feathers.  As your cat or dog sheds, this hair often clumps together in corners or around edges and it makes a tasty meal for the critters.

Carpet Beetle Larvae

An adult female measuring up to 1/4 inch can lay up to 100 eggs that hatch in a period of two weeks.  Unlike the black, oblong adult beetle, larvae are furry, and are cloaked in brown and white stripes. Carpet Beetles go through an entire cycle of metamorphosis that begins with an egg, which then hatches into the crawling larvae.  From there it enters the cocoon stage (pupation) in order to become an adult beetle.  But it is in the larval state in which they cause the most damage. Even though they are less than 3/8 of an inch long, it is not uncommon to see a larvae in your home- they are big wanderers.  Other times, you will see the cast of their skin, as they undergo a process similar to molting in order to mature to a stage where fabric and hair become their food source. One place where you won’t see these guys: anywhere near cedar.  Ever wonder why your mom insists on storing your baby clothes in a cedar chest?  Well, she’s a smart lady- cedar gives off a vapor that is toxic to Carpet Beetle Larvae.  Unfortunately, after 3 years, the vapors diminish and they are free to once again chow down on your clothes.

Adult Carpet Beetles

Different types of the adult insect include Black, Furniture, and Varied Carpet Beetles.  Once they reach the adult stage, all of these species become completely immune to cedar – bummer! They are often found near doors and windows, and not only breed outside, but inside your home as well.  They can fly from house to house, infesting as they please.  Also, the adults feed on certain plants such as daisies and asters, so if you or a neighbor have these outside of your homes, you have a possible source.

Control

-There are a few ways in which to manage these bugs:

  • Bait them.  Pick up some fly paper at the store and coat it with one of their favorite meals like dog or cat hair.
  • Cedar.  Larvae don’t stand a chance and you’ll protect those precious clothes. And after 3 years, use cedar chips in storage to replenish that vapor.
  • Hot & Cold.  Storing susceptible items at a temperature below 40 degrees prevents infestation, as well as exposing them to extreme heat.  Let your clothes lie in direct sun rays for a few hours – the Carpet Beetles will scatter.
  • Clean House.  Proper house-keeping is a big help: vacuum, dust and keep surfaces as clean as you can to prevent beetles from setting up shop.

-If these remedies prove ineffective, people often turn to pesticides.  They put them in cracks and crevices, or anywhere else a beetle can be:

Moth Balls.  Yep, we’ve all smelled them – sometimes when hugging dear grandma.  They are quite common, but their ingredients are known to be carcinogenic.

Sprays.  Bayer Advanced Home spray and others contain active ingredients like cyfluthrin, a chemical compound of pyrethroids, which when exposed, can cause numbness, nausea and even seizures.

EcoSMART is the best solution for carpet beetle infestation.  It’s ORGANIC, which means it’s 100% natural- no chemical compounds here.  But don’t let that fool you into thinking it won’t work – EcoSMART’s organic pesticides will kill those beetles without effecting the health of your family.

Will this product work for spraying around floorboards. I don’t have carpet. The carpet beetle larvae may be from a brand new sofa I bought at IKEA. There were not beetles, then a few weeks after puting the sofa in my house, I suddenly have tons of larvae crawling all over my concrete floors and walls.

  3. By Rosemary Rosales on Sep 5, 2009

Help! I have tons of carpet beetles. My husband and I collect about 50+ every night.
We have been vaccuming and dusting every day but it is not helping. We think it started from some flowers that my children decided to cut and bring into the home for me.
Because I have 2 small children, I am worried about what I use to get rid of these pests. Would love to try this product.

  4. By Amy on Sep 21, 2009

As long as it is safe to use around pets, I would love to give this product a try. Been having problems with these for a long time and just recently identified them.

I have 3 young children (all under the age of 5) and I am due to deliver my 4th in a month. I have an infestation of carpet beetles and I am going crazy! I hate bugs and I am have a total melt down dealing with this. I have all the closets all torn apart and have been vacuuming every day. But I still see larva. I want to know how this product kills… does it take care of the eggs or the larva or the adult. I just want this situation to go away!

  6. By Stacey on Oct 6, 2009

I’ve tried everything short of chemicals to get rid of these bugs. I clean like crazy and have tried a different brand of organic insecticide. It may have helped but I still have them. I have a two year old and I’m trying everything to avoid using harsh chemical insecticides.

I had someone come out and spray for my carpet beetles in the fall about 2 years ago and I was so sad to see them come back last year and I am already seeing them again this year. I was in denial last year that it was a problem again but I kept hoping I would stop seeing them. When he sprayed before my daughter was not walking and we had to cover the carpets for a month and now that she is 3 I am really concerned about using chemicals around her but these larvae are creeping me out and I have found them in her room and even under my bed twice!!! YUCK!! Please I would love to try your product!!

  8. By Carolina on Oct 16, 2009

I just found carpet beetles in my closet, and I think they ate fur in one coat. Then I found a lot more in the basement in a flour bag. I’m doing deep cleaning of all the food and grains, but I’m concernd they’ll be back if they got between the walls to get to my bedroom. Will the “home pest control spray” be a solution to this pest problem? I’ll love to try it since I’m so concerned about pesticides all over my house because I have to small kids.

Gross, I never knew these existed. Yuk, I lay on the carpet all the time.

  10. By Donna on Oct 23, 2009

I have occasionally seen these around my home, except I had no idea what they were for the longest time. This article is very informative and helpful. I would have never thought that there might be a connection between the larvae and the actual beetle. Thank you for the information!!

I’m going nuts over these darn things. It’s the most stressed out I’ve been in a long time!!! We had someone come and spray our house, then a few days later, I’m finding them again. I’ve thrown away a ton of stuff, washed a million loads of clothes and blankets… I don’t know what else to do!! I know they aren’t in my bed, but I haven’t slept in my bed in a few weeks. Help!!

  12. By Mary Marlow on Oct 25, 2009

Wow! I might be saved! These little bugs have been living in our dining room and kitchen for a long time. When I took a few to the ‘bug-man’ he told me what they were and the only way to get rid of them, of course, was a strong and dangerous poison. We have been cleaning all they time. They were even in the cabinet by the dishwasher. Behind the dishwasher-who knows? Every other place has cleaned been out. It is their final strong hold, I’m sure. I just used hot soapy water. They still come around to visit. The signs are there. I really do not want to move the dishwasher until I have a solution. They probably have a highly fortified castle back there. I will not do it alone. I would love to try your product. If I am one of the first 1,000 please send it as soon as possible. I want to know what is going on behind the dishwasher. The thought of chemicals just does not do it for me. Hot soapy water is not cutting it either. We may have lost a few battles, but we will wil the war!

I have not toticed too many hornets, but an abundance of wasps. Again, we do not know where the nest is. We do have a general idea. Hopefully, I can find someone to climb the ladder and check out the area. If you have a safe product that works. Yes, I would love to be a tester. I live ‘more or less’ in the woods. All kinds of strange bugs and creatures come to my house. Thank you

  14. By Mary Marlow on Oct 25, 2009

    Do not have them

  15. By Mary Marlow on Oct 25, 2009

We do not have a problem with hornets. Just the wasps.

  16. By Mary Marlow on Oct 25, 2009

We have not noticed many hornets but a lot of wasps. The location of the nest is still unkonow, but the genreal location has been found.

I had no idea what these little bugs were until I called Terminix, since I already have bait traps set around my house for termites. I’m already paying a fortune for this treatment. Then, I get these little bugs and didn’t know what they were. Terminix came to my home and said, “these are carpet beetles.” Terminix tried to have me signup for Pest Control, which came out to be about $420 bucks! I said, “no thank you.” These carpet beetles are in my bedroom and most were under the bed. They are all over the carpet and need to stop them from spreading throughout the entire home. I have been reading so much on this and would love to try your product. Thank you.

I have 3 little ones, including a 5 month old that is attempting to crawl. I have had carpet beetles in a previous home that I believe came in a used sofa. When we bought our new house I thought we had rid ourselves of the problem, but they followed us in our winter clothes and I believe our beds! We now have a problem with 2 separate pantry-like beetles, except that they are not in our pantry! I have found them in both bathrooms, under our stove, in the entry way and he worse place.. the nursery!! would love to know if this product would work on those as well as the carpet beetles!

  19. By Tavia Evinger on Oct 29, 2009

Please help me. I believe we have an infestation due to too much stuff and too much dust being left under our furniture. We thoroughly cleaned out our room last night and found the carpet beetle worms and little larva around the edges of our mattress under our mattress pad. YUCK we slept on the couch. We still have to go through both of our childrens rooms and clean everything out. I already had our children put all of their stuffed toys in garbage bags and put them in the garage. I would very much love to try your bug killer as I am completely against using any chem. bug killer in or around our home.

I just discovered lots of these larvae living in my carpet and under my bathroom floor. I’m afraid they’re going to find their way to my wool sweaters in my closet! I want to kill them, but I don’t want to poison my room (and myself) in the process. This product looks great — I would love to try it!

I am so excited to have found your website. You are a ray of hope! I have been dealing with carpet beetles for the past year. I do not want to use harmful chemicals and need help desperately! I have found them on every floor of my house and I don’t even have carpeting. I first discovered mass amounts of the adults in my basement. With further investigation I found larvae shells on the painted block walls where dust had accumulated, behind the washer and dryer especially. They have since infiltrated the rest of the house. Making their way to my Merino wool sweater in the upstairs bedroom closet. I can’t wait to try your product!

I have discovered dead larvae all over a spare bedroom, as well as some alive in a chest full of blankets and some crawling on beds….help! I clean and do laundry constantly and they are still around…wherever there is carpet in our house (downstairs is wood flooring so none there). I am worried to try other products because I have a 2 year old and am expecting to give birth to our 2nd baby any day now….hopefully this product is our savior.

We purchased our home when it was only 2.5-years-old from dog owners. After researching about carpet beetle larvae, I’ve learned that dog hair is one of their favorite foods. After paying over $400 for someone to professionally clean our carpets and purchasing my own carpet cleaner, I’m still finding 1-2 larvae daily. I would love to be an EcoSMART tester.

  30. By Gina on Nov 15, 2009

Recently I began finding about 2 larvae a day. They’ve even gotten into my cedar chest and have put holes in my sweaters. It’s totally grossing me out–I hate bugs–but I don’t want to use chemicals. I’d love to try an eco-friendly product to get rid of them.

  31. By Cody B on Nov 15, 2009

Thanks for writing this. I have been searching google for a month now trying to figure out what they were. I haven’t found any beetles yet but the larvae I find under my bed and on my walls. I might have to try some of this spray if the fly trap trick doesn’t work. One odd thing is I find them only in my room and our cat dosnt go in there and there are no clothes under it. I first found them in my PSP(gaming system)Case, along with something whitish that wasn’t there the last time I used it. What do their eggs look like?

I have two little babies who are constantly crawling on the floor in a small house. I have no time to drag everything out and clean anything. What can I do to destroy and put a stop to the infestation once and for all? Please help…I’m desperate!

For the past couple months I have found carpet beetle larvae on the walls in my room. I have no carpet or wool/fur clothing and I just cleaned everything. I vacuumed and washed every article of clothing. They were gone for a week but I just found another on my wall. I would like to be a product tester!

August 09 this all started and 6 months later i’m about to take the photo’s and burn the house down! I’ve had that much pest poison sprayed here i shouldn’t be alive or living here and really don’t know what next I do belive they have been having a party in the roof void for years with the wool insulation and now have moved into the rest of the house so i’m about to move out

  39. By Nancy on Feb 5, 2010

Since the people who lived in our house before us were absolute pigs (there were dead mice and roaches in kitchen cabinets and appliances), we had an exterminator treat the house before we moved in 4 years ago. We also had the place treated for termites, which were very well established in the house. However, before long, I began noticing disgusting, brown, furry larvae along the floors, baseboards, and sometimes even bedspreads in the house. I can’t begin to tell you how much vacuuming, bleaching, cleaning I’ve been doing since then and the disgusting little things kept coming. Can you imagine a woman who is 41 weeks pregnant on her hands and knees trying to clean under baseboards with a toothbrush?–that was me. I don’t know if they’re coming from my garden (I noticed the adult beetles on my windowsills facing the backyard) or from dead mice still in the walls (we recently remodeled our whole basement and found dead mice in the walls, I can’t even begin to imagine what there might be in the upper floor or attic). I always dryclean and store non-seasonal clothing in airtight bags with lavendar packets in rubbermaid totes. This winter, I have put on multiple nice woolen sweaters, just to notice hole after hole in them at work. I can’t take it anymore. I have had fantasies about burning down my house to kill them, but the thing that stops me is that our house is semi-attached and I don’t want the family next door to become homeless. Please help! I am going out of my mind, and I have two small kids under 3 yo that I do not want to poison in the process.

    Nancy,

Wow, you have had some tough times at this place and I’m really sorry about that.

EcoSMART sells value bundles that target inside the house, your garden, etc. I think the best one for you would be the Safe Home Value Bundle. It has products for flying insects, ants and roaches and any other a home pest control spray that can be used inside and outside.

    Good luck!

I’d seen a couple of beetles at my 2nd apartment, but last summer we had a major infestation in our apartment. i found tons of larva when i dropped a bag of spaghetti on the floor, i didn’t eat in the house for weeks. tried everything to get rid of these suckers. my land lord didn’t believe me and told me it was my fault they were in my apartment. anyways. i moved away from that place and in the last few weeks i’ve found 5 carpet beetles. two in my bedroom, 1 in the bath, 1 in the kitchen and 1 in the dining room. They’re everywhere! bugs creep me out, but last summer when i found the larva i was so stressed out i got shingles. i don’t want to go through that again.

I would LOVE to try your product! I have had carpet beetles since I was a kid and now I am 34. They didn’t seem to be a huge problem until Jan ‘10. I have a 3 year old and a 7 month old about to start crawling. I have thrown away 3 trash bags full of infected clothes just today and still have more to go. I have seen them in the bedrooms and bathrooms and they have moved downstairs into the living room. I desperately want to get rid of these now that I know what they are. Thank you!

I would love to try this. I have a newborn baby, 4 year old, and 11 year old. I have been seeing these in my living room. Never had these before and looking at ways to get rid of them. I am afraid to let the kids play in the floor, especially the baby. I tried to lay her playmat in the floor the other day and saw a few crawling on it after I just vacuumed. Not doing that again. Is this promotion still going on? I didn’t see anything saying if it was or not.

I found this blog the same way many people did, by Googling the odd looking bugs I found with my clothes. A few hours ago I was going through my stored clothes, looking for ones to donate in order to clean up space. I started in on the plastic storage containers. I got half way through and noticed a few brown stripped things on a few items of clothing. I actually had a sweater the same pattern and wondered if it came from there. As I got deeper in the bin, I noticed a few more before I looked closer and noticed what they were. Gross! So far they look dead, but I’d hate to donate clothes and have them spread to other people. I also REALLY hate the idea of living with these things. I have a toddler and a small space so I’d hate to spray any serious chemicals and do more harm than good, that’s why I’m really hoping to try your product. I also recall seeing some of these with some old books and in an old toy (it was mine, from years ago). I had no idea what they were at the time. Since they were dead I didn’t think they were bugs. If I found that many in a seal plastic container, I’m so scared to open the cardboard box that was under that container.

I live in a condominium with my mom. Being a full time college student, and my mother working two jobs in order to help me out financially, we are hardly ever home. Just recently, as finals approached, I began finding the little critters all over the place. Downstairs while studying, in the bathroom while showering, even on my bed while sleeping. Absolutely frustrated with the disgusting little critters, I started to Spring Clean. Needless to say, by about the first hour I had found A TON of them scattered about in places I would have never imagined even existed! When I mentioned it to my mom, she noticed that her walk in closet was FULL of them. There we were, on a school night, for her a work-night, up until about 4 am cleaning our entire house. We have decided to wash all of our clothes, take them somewhere else, vacuum multiple times a day, use Moth Crystals, and await until their execution… It’s really frustrating to see my mom have to worry about this, but I feel so hopeless. I think WE feel so hopeless. Please help us. We would truly appreciate it. Thank you.

I really am sympathetic to everyone that has posted here. I have found the larva around my apartment about a month after we moved in, granted I would NOT have moved here had I known. I have worried myself sick over this issue. I clean everything, closets(as they have carpet), under all furniture, and my mattress is on the floor which is the worst for possible future problems. I haven’t seen any larva in awhile but I still see beetles almost daily, or every other day. Only one or two at a time but I can’t take it anymore! I don’t even want to touch my floor and I’m such a clean freak that this causes me major meltdowns at times thinking my child is going to crawl soon. I just ordered some of this and am crossing my fingers this will solve my problems soon…I can’t stand feeling like this.

I think these sound like great products. Just the thing I have been looking for. god I hate bugs. beetles, weevels, spiders, ants, fleas…I’m getting the willies thinking about it. Mostly I just ignore them as there has been no safe solution for me to use, I’m chemicaly sensative.
I would love to try your products.

I loathe these disgusting menaces. Now that I have read that they come in with the dogs and love their fluffy hair, I’m ready to kick my pups to the curb; I love them, but I just cannot take it any more. They are vile and are everywhere!!!!! I have a 21 month old daughter and babysit kids in my home…this is not okay!! They are on every floor, in every room, and I cannot sweep them up, smoosh them, or sticky trap them enough. I’m at my wits end and I sympathize with everyone on here.

I have carpet beetles all over my apartment. They are flying around, they are in my kitchen cabinets, closets,in my bedroom, livingroom, inside the furniture.I have complete infestation. i live in an apartment and every once in a while we have inspections by the owner. in order to prepare for one i had to clean under my bed, which i had been avoiding for a while, and really clean my room up. Now it’s been about a week and I’ve started seeing these larvae on my wall, which look a lot like the pictures of carpet beetle larvae that i’ve seen. i’ve been just killing them as i see them but they keep coming and i usually don’t see them on my wall until after i get home in the evening. i really do believe that they’re carpet bugs and i’d love to test this product to see if they’ll go away. i’m really tired of seeing these things, they’re really grossing me out.

  65. By Michelle Moll on Oct 11, 2010

I have seen the larva in my kitchen cabinets. No food kept there at all.

Last night I didn’t sleep as I emptied and washed every item and tucked them under blankets on the couch. This morning I let off a fogger to hopefully kill all the things.

I haven’t seen them anywhere else and I am now TERRIFIED to go home and look in the closets. UGH!

I found the majority of them in one kitchen drawer where I had just placed a newly purchased roll of tin foil from a dollar store place.

I believe I will only be shopping Target from now on.

I found carpet beetle larvae over a month ago in my home, my husband and I cleaned the entire house to include our dressers and night stands (and yes we did find them there as well). We used a pesticide to treat but found it still did not take care of the problem, so we bought eco smart because I to was concerned about the harm a pesticide could cause my family after reading on the dangers….long story short the smell is overwhelming and lingers for over a week, that would be fine but we still have carpet beetle larvae! I spoke to an exterminator and he says that they are very hard to treat and get rid of because they may live in the walls and they can travel from room to room so you must make sure to keep your house CLEAN! Vacuum, dust, and I would recommend spraying either eco smart or a chemical pesticide (cautiously) and as for the people who are finding over 50 a day in there home I would call an exterminator if I were you, that sounds pretty severe! make sure you use someone reputable! They completely gross me out as well, I hope we will get rid of them for good soon!!! Best of luck to everyone….

I found carpet beetles while we were renovating our house. we have 1 dog 3 cats and a 8 year old with really bad asthma I am really concerned about the chemicals. we were told by exterminators that we had to pack up our whole house and get rid of all our cardboard storage boxes, basically move without moving. We have done all that, and it seems to have reduced the problem but I still find them and am really worried about spraying our house.

  68. By Susan on Oct 19, 2010

I bought my house last year and discovered these tiny little larvae just about everywhere. I didn’t know what they were but found them nibbling at strands of hair! I did a little research and found out they were carpet beetles. I had figured that one of my rugs from my previous home had carried them to my new house and threw it out (it was completely infested!!!) but then I found dead larvae bodies so I guess they were here at the new house as well. Anyhow, I thought I got rid of them because they disappeared in the winter, but sure enough they are back again! They are everywhere and I need to try something new to get rid of them. I hope your organic product works :)

  69. By Katie on Oct 22, 2010

We have had carpet beetles in our house for I don’t know how long :( I would love to test your product because I am scared to have traditional pesticides sprayed in my home.

You you should change the blog name How to Get Rid of Carpet Beetles to more suited for your blog post you make. I liked the blog post even sononetheless.

I discovered insects firstly in the bath. They were like small black caterpillars that were dragging a cacoon around with them. I took a sample to the Pest Control Officer at the Council who diagnosed it as Carpet Beatles. The only place they could have come from is the loft, through flush fitting lights in the ceiling. I have been into the loft but could not find a distinctive infestation although there was a nest on a rafter like an open flower about 6 cm dia. with hexagonal pockets, similar to a wasp nest, but there were no signs of insects. They are still coming into the house, CAN YOU HELP?

  72. By natasha on Oct 31, 2010

HELP!!!! I recently discovered a few furry little things around my bedroom, i quickly hoovered and washed everything in sight. I recently found out they are carpet beetle larve. I have a 2 year old and hate the thought of these going around my home, as i have found the odd one in my living room, my hallway and daughters room. I would love to try your product as i cant use anything harmful especially in my daughters room.

  73. By Elizabeth on Nov 4, 2010

So i dont know if this is still going on but i figure it is worth a shot. I found these nasty things in my bedroom and a few on my bed today. It is the most disgusting thing. I have a 19 month old son and i really worry about these things getting into his bed or on him.
I would really love to test your product because i really dont to want to spray anything harmful in our home for my families sake. Please let us test your product.

  74. By Anne on Nov 9, 2010

I’d love to try your product! I’ve just discovered these things in my closet and have found holes in my wool sweaters. I vacuumed them all up and then a few days later there were lots of them back again. :(

  75. By Andrea on Nov 16, 2010

I moved into my house 3 years ago with my children who are now 3 & 5. 3 years ago I was finding these beetle like bugs 1 or 2 here and there and thought nothing of it. Then this past summer I found tons of these beetles along with larva and what looked like eggs all over the house. Found out I have carpet beetles and not to happy. After that a thorough vaccuuming/cleaning session ensued. I even cleaned the garage where they had apparently been eating in one of my strollers. Anyways I’m still finding them and would love to try your product.

  76. By Lorraine on Jan 25, 2011

I have been trying to figure out what these little bugs were, and thanks to your site I finally know.

I also know what those little worm like things are by the fireplace, and this seems to be where they’re coming in. (It’s an enclosed gas fireplace, but the bottom is open and there are cracks around it).

I have fish, a hamster (rescued from the spca), and a child, so I am absolutely against using any type of insecticide that could harm either my child or our pets.

If the tester program is still open, I would be delighted, and eternally grateful, to give your product a try. I have to get rid of these bugs. I can’t stand the thought of them crawling on my daughter.

    Thx.

  77. By Tracie on Mar 18, 2011

I’ve had these bugs for awhile and have just now been able to identify them. I’ve started to see more and more of them, so I think they are starting to get worse.

I’d love to be a product tester if the program is still available, as I have 2 cats and don’t want to use chemicals around them.

Thanks for the great info on your site!

  79. By Gina on Mar 21, 2011

I’ve seen some of those little bugs around our house and never knew what they were until I saw your picture of the carpet beetle larvae. Yuck!! If this is still open, I would definitely be part of it. Having two small kids, I’m always looking for the least harmful way to get rid of bugs.

  81. By Kirsten on Apr 4, 2011

We just moved into our first home 1 week ago and I was seeing these small bugs coming out for under our stove. At first I thought it was a fluke but I’ve been vacuuming up more and more over the last few days. I did research and now know its varied carpet beetles. This house was so spotless when we bought it yet we still cleaned top to bottom and didn’t see bugs anywhere else. I would LOVE to test your product if this is still happening. I have an indoor cat so I am very leery of any pesticides for not only her but us. PLEASE HELP.

  82. By mom2two on Apr 5, 2011

Just moved into a place and noticed these little guys around the balcony door. We’ve been here for 2 weeks and we see around 1-2 adult beetles a day. I’m really concerned that I’ll have an infestation soon. Now I’m also wondering if there are beetles in our couch…

I have two young children and I really don’t want to use any harsh chemicals.

Is your product tester promotion still on?

Thanks for posting your info page!

  83. By Ashley on Apr 11, 2011

I’m in a somewhat similar situation to mom2two–my housemate and I are seeing about 1 adult carpet beetle every two days, and found three skins. We’re very concerned that we may get an infestation, and that the couch (under which we found the skins, and near where we’ve seen most of the adult carpet beetles) may itself have beetles or beetle eggs in it.

We’ve been vacuuming all over the place, and got OrthoMax to spray around the base boards, but we have two small pets that like to do things like lick window frames, so we just aren’t willing to use such harsh chemicals. Is your product safe for pets in such situations (obviously, we’d keep the pets out of the area until the product dried, but more than 24hrs of pet free time in an area is probably unfeasible), and is your promotion still on?

Thanks for the info page–I actually came across this page when looking to see if they infested couches, and the information was very nice to read.

Every now and then I’ve found the adults crawling along the walls. I have cedar in all the closets so I figure that’s been working for the larva. I’d like to be a product tester to see if I can get rid of them once and for all.

    Hi,
I just found these beetles in my kitchen about a week ago. We moved the stove and moveable cabinets and bakers rack to discover two huge nests of dried cocoons? I looked online and found these are the bugs we have. We ran the oven clean cycle, cleaned out everywhere they are that we found. Yet, I am killing like 20-30 a day just randomly crawling on kitchen floor. I have pets and small children so I am worried about chemicals. I would like to try your organic Product by being an EcoSMART Tester. I am hoping these things aren’t any other place in the house! I don’t want them moving onto the counter tops. I randomly see them at the windows too. THanks so much for your consideration. :)

Hi just like others, after research I discovered what these little creepers are. Found initially in master bed along baseboard in the carpet. Disgusting! Didn’t see many at first but starting to see them everyday when vacuuming and found evidence of them in my clothes dresser yesterday. I have removed the clothes and put into trash bags to dispose of. I’m not a pet owner and try to keep up with dusting and vacuuming. HELP!

We just discovered these guys after moving across the country — there was plenty of food for them to feed off of. Now they are all over — I pick a bunch off every time we get in the car. I haven’t seen any larvae though. I’d love to test the product ASAP. Does the offer still stand?

I let a friend on hard times move into my youngest sons bedroom, she stayed there a few months and he slept with my other two boys in their room, when she moved out shedidnt take her things, and when we cleaned her room out we were disgusted tofind these little burrowing worm like things in the carpet. I believe them to be irregular carpet beetles, and I had an exterminator come and spray for them the very next day after doing a thourough cleaning of the whole room, and after moving furniture around and examining the rugs in the adjoining rooms to be sure it hadnt yet spread. all her things were bagged up, and moved outside. this is supposed to be my babies room and my childrens playroom, and I cannot get rid of these little nasty things so instead it is a carpet beetle museum. noone may enter, only look from afar. I cannot keep this room in my house roped off any longer, my boys are way to big to share a room when there is three of them, and I have no stomach or nerves for bugs at all. I am mortified and disgusted, and I feel really helpless about this problem right now. I need to figure something out and FAST I want my house back from these things!! please help! i have a 7 year old, a 5 year old, an almost 2 year old whos into EVERYTHing, and an older cat, so I need a safe but EFFECTIVE product.

I’ve been noticing these nasty creatures for some time and in need of help as well. I have a one year old and a two year old and we use absolutely no chemicals and certainly don’t want to start now. I’m moving this coming month from an apartment to a house and don’t want to take the unwanted pests with me. I’m certainly needing something like this!

I have noticed a ton of carpet beetles outside of my home and recently began noticing numerous holes in my clothes. I saw the Larvae of one recently. I have tried vaccumming and spraying the outside foundation of my home with Bug Stop. I am still seeing more damage to my clothes. I would love to try your product to help get rid of these carpet beetles.

    Thank you,

My clothing is still being damaged. I am hoping to avoid using dangerous chemicals inside my home. I would love to try your product to get rid of these Carpet Beetles.

Saw some evidence and pulled back our nice wool carpet on the third floor, they have eaten both ends, and have gotten to another carpet and possibly a third. This is just really out of hand.

I am one of many with a carpet beetle problem. I have never seen these little pests until we moved to this rental. We have been here for a month and have not been able to go a day without having to clean dead bugs or even crawling ones up. It’s so annoying. I don’t even know where they are hiding. I just see them every now and then. I am a super clean freak and can’t believe this. I have 3 children, no pets. I’m so frustrated because I don’t understand why we were the lucky ones. I have not yet seen a larvae. I’ve torn my livingroom apart and vaccumed every corner I can. Please help. This is so disgusting.

We are a small family with a 10 month old little girl and we have been dealing particularly with the larvae for the past year only to feel defeated by these critters. We vacuum, use borax, dust and clean often with no results. The previous owner had a dog who left lots of hair behind (major clean up when we moved in) and I am guessing these beetles have lived here longer than we have. Help! Our daughter crawls and gets into everything and puts everything in her mouth and I would like to know that I will be able to get rid of these beetles one day. We would love to test your product as it sounds like something safe to use in the home with a baby and effective.

We are a military family that just recently moved into military housing.. We thought this place was perfect for our growing family but last week while cleaning behind the couch, my wife found carpet beetle larvae hiding in the couch cushions and behind the couch. Snce then we’ve been finding them a few at a time all throughout our home. We have a 6 year old and a 5 month old and need to find a safe solution to get rid of these pests! We vacuum daily but doesn’t seem to be helping! We first spotted them downstairs in our living room but started finding them in our bedroom as well as our 6 year olds bedroom. Please help this military family.

Our family recently moved to Colorado. A few months later I found a cashmere sweater with holes in it. I began researching for the culprit. This is when I found out about carpet beetles and what to look for. Then I found them in my house. We have hardly any carpet in our house, and I clean regularly, but they are still lurking about. Occasionally I find their shed skins, larvae, and adult beetles. I am afraid that they are going to eat my clothing and would love to try a product that is safe for my children, pet, and myself.

Within the last several months we’ve dealt with what apparently are carpet beetle larvae. One of our previous pets used to hide her dog treats and eventually come back and get them. Unfortunately she managed to hide a few behind large pieces of furniture and it went unknown until the dog biscuits became a food source for the larvae. We have now since found four other locations throughout the house where our dog managed to conceal the treats out of view until the carpet beetle apparently found them. Need help in getting rid of these buggers!!

  110. By Jason on Oct 10, 2011

Please don’t lie to people by saying your product has no chemical compounds because it is organic. Everything is made of chemicals, and chemical compounds are not necessarily a bad thing. Furthermore, naturally occurring chemicals aren’t always great either; I’d rather ingest food with a synthetic potassium benzoate preservative than the berries of Atropa belladonna (deadly nightshade)… Clearly, if your product is effective, it contains some kind of compound capable of killing these bugs!
