Toxic Pesticide May Cause Childhood Obesity
June 16th, 2009 Posted in Green Living & News, Organic & Chemical Pesticides
Now I’ve heard some crazy pregnancy myths out there, but nothing like this before…
Researchers at Michigan State University have done research to prove that consuming increased amounts of DDE, a breakdown of the well-known toxic synthetic pesticide, DDT, during pregnancy can increase obesity in offspring later on in life.
Most people know about Rachel Carson’s famed 1972 best-seller Silent Spring, in which she talks about the detrimental effects of DDT, among other pesticides, on not only the environment as a whole, but more specifically birds and humans. This was one of the prompters of the eventual ban on DDT. However, just because it was banned does not mean that traces of it are not still out there.
Furthermore, the experts at MSU are saying that women who are pregnant should not consume fatty meats and fish in excess, due to the effects of the DDE that come along with the meats. This will eventually cause obesity in their children. The study shows that in relation to those that consumed minimal amounts of DDE–those who consumed moderate amounts had children that gained up to 13 pounds of excess weight, and those that consumed excessive amounts had children that gained 20+ pounds of excess weight.
This could have quite an effect on children being born these days. What is more interesting is as we find out more and more about being on the proactive side of obesity, we find that certain chemicals put all of the pieces together. More importantly, we now realize what could have been prevented if they knew then what we know now.
Instead of having to deal with this in the future, use the safe alternative for pesticides, EcoSMART organic pest control. Ingredients are all natural, and EcoSMART products have been labeled by the FDA as “Generally Recognized as Safe.”
In other words, Moms and Moms-to-be, limit the fatty meats and fish to better your child’s future, and use EcoSMART, to deal with ants and bugs safely!

This is amazing to hear! I am so glad that I found this site. I had never used a toxic pesticide when I was pregnant, thank the lord. I think that if we all become a little more “greener” the world might become a little more happier
