Go Green & Save! Energy Conservation
July 6th, 2009 Posted in Green Living & News
Living a green lifestyle not only aids in the conservation of the environment and its precious resources, but also helps the average homeowner conserve the green leafy objects in their wallets.

Summertime is the perfect opportunity to lower your home’s energy bills. Chris Prelitz is the author of Green Made Easy: The Everyday Guide for Transitioning to a Green Lifestyle, and in his book he has provided a number of ways that simultaneously save you money and help the environment.
Four of his steps that make a large and almost instantaneous difference on your energy bill are:
- Unplug the power suckers. Many appliances like TVs, DVD players and computers, draw electricity even when they’re turned off. In fact, according to the U.S. Department of Energy, this phantom drainage costs U.S. consumers more than $3 billion a year! Get a surge protector to stop the energy draining with one flip of a switch.
- Carefully stock your fridge.Liquids, especially those stored in glass bottles, like beer, store cold well. So the more liquids you store, the less cold air will escape when you open the door. Also, never stuff your fridge too full – cold air needs room to circulate.
- Find drafts.Spider webs around doors and windows are an indication there’s a draft. Seal all leaks and gaps to prevent energy from escaping.
- Understand the good and bad of the sun. The sun is a great source of light and heat in the winter, but a problem in the summer. Shade windows with blinds or film to reduce heat gain by as much as 79%.
Why not save your own energy by using EcoSMART organic insecticides to safely and effectively get rid of pests; so, you don’t have to waste time or energy making a homemade remedy?
