Ants vs. Humans: Ant Logic Wins by a Landslide
September 30th, 2009 Posted in Ants & Roaches
Does it ever seem like those ants in your kitchen pantry are outsmarting you? You’ve laid traps, sprayed ant spray, made a trail of sugar to your annoying neighbor’s kitchen…yet still that constant parade of ants finds its way to your cookie stash.
Why are these ants still invading your home?
Believe it or not, a recent study by Professors Stephen Pratt and Susan Edwards at Arizona State University found that ants are more logical than humans.
Wait…really?

Ants are maybe one-millionth the size of humans and have brains the size of a pin head. How can they possibly be more logical than humans?
According to Pratt and Edwards, ants are skilled in finding places to nest. Unlike humans, who make a lot of irrational decisions, ants tend to stick to the logical. Humans and other animals have complex emotional systems that cause them to make sometimes illogical choices.
Think about the last time you made a decision. Were you completely free of emotional influence?
I know that my emotions were involved in the decision to buy the slightly more expensive phone because it has a pretty touch screen. Was this decision the most logical one? Probably not, as it might not last me as long and may be more temperamental than a “sensible” cell phone.
So there’s your answer.
But why exactly are ants more logical in general? Ants have a lack of individual decision making and therefore rely on group decisions, making them more efficient and logical than humans and animals. Their mistakes are minimized and their outcomes are much more accurate because they always work as a team.
So how can you outsmart these logical little beasts? Choose an organic and highly effective insecticide, like EcoSMART’s organic ant killer. And if you like to go green, then your decision can be emotional and logical, all at the same time!
Take that, ants!

I would love to try something that would take care of our ant problem that we seem to get every spring now. I’ve tried petroleum jelly on the doorwall and that just made a greasy mess, ant traps have had no effect, and I find them in the strangest places, like my dishwasher! But not in my pantry or even the dog’s food at that!
