Global Warming & Its Effect on Arctic Sea Ice Levels

November 9th, 2009 Posted in Green Living & News

Whenever you use your car, get stuck in traffic, use electricity from a power plant, and ride in an airplane, you are contributing to the rising temperature of the planet.

arctic sea ice levels

Most commonly known as global warming, the Earth’s temperature has been rising for decades due to mankind’s emissions of carbon dioxide and other dangerous greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, which is causing sea levels to rise in the arctic and worldwide dramatically.

This article will give you:

A Background on Global Warming

Things aren’t looking too good. A four year study on the arctic sea ice levels was conducted by over 300 scientists from all over the world to estimate future warming trends of the globe.

Basically, the arctic is melting fast and at current emission levels the projected global temperature will rise 7 to 13 degrees Fahrenheit over the next 10 decades. This is going to cause an increase of seal levels around the world, submerging many coastal areas.

A Background on Global Warming

This could hurt many different people, affecting their food and health security, flooding of various inhabited regions, affect the ocean currents, and drastically change regional climates. These temperatures are causing much of the Greenland ice sheet to melt, greatly contributing to the projected rising of sea levels. The only thing we can do now is change our global trends to help stop further global warming in the future.

A Guide To What You Can Do

They are many things you as an individual can do everyday to help stop global warming:

  • Use reusable water bottles
  • Turn off your computer, when not in use
  • Use reusable bags when going to the grocery store
  • Buy organic foods
  • Switch to double pane windows
  • Air dry your clothes
  • Unplug unused electronics
  • Plant a tree
  • Reduce garbage
  • Carpool when possible
  • Take shorter showers
  • Buy food locally
  • Use the dishwasher only when full
  • Used recycled paper
  • Reduce TV watching
  • Bike or walk short distances

EcoSMART’s Own Contribution

Helping in anyway they can, EcoSMART’s chemical free organic pesticides are helping to reduce pollution and carbon emissions contributing to global warming. By using eco-friendly insecticides you can help control pest infestations, while also not contributing to global warming.

Safe for children, pets, and the environment you can’t go wrong when it comes to pest control in a time when every single person’s contribution counts.
