Natural Flea Treatment

December 7th, 2009 Posted in Bed Bugs & Fleas

Fleas are a torment for your family’s pets and sometimes for the whole household. If your dog or cat is covered in fleas, then runs in the house and jumps on the couch, your whole family could be at risk.

When dealing with flea problems it is important to make sure you don’t hurt your pet or the environment in the process. It’s also important to make sure you understand how to properly identify a flea problem because quicker identification is the key to successful flea management.

This article will explore:

Flea Identification

A key aspect in ending a flea problem is to first identify the infestation. If you notice many red bumps at the root of your pet or child’s hair, then you’ve most likely stumbled upon a flea bite. If you put your finger through your child’s hair or pet’s coat and find very small black and brown little dots attached to their hair, then you’ve discovered fleas clinging to their hair.

It is important to check for fleas regularly to prevent the infestation from continuing and spreading. Also understanding the life cycle of the flea is very crucial in helping end infestations. The flea life cycle lasts anywhere between 4 and 25 days. Before reproducing the male and female flea must feed on blood.

After the flea is full of blood it mates and can produce 30 to 50 eggs per day, while attached to a host. After several larval stages, the baby fleas spins itself a cocoon and then pupates. When the flea hatches it becomes a fully fledged adult flea. After hatching it latches on to its host and immediately begins feeding.

Flea Treatment For Pets & Kids

Pets are more likely to have problems with fleas then your children, but they can unsuspectingly spread them to your family. Thus, many of the prevention and treatments are similar for pets and kids.

The only difference is once there is already a flea infestation, the flea cleansing soaps for pets and people are drastically different. After discovering the infestation you can buy flea cleansing soap to help deal with the issue.

Once lathered across the scalp or coat, it can help to ease the flea bites and remove the living fleas. Some ways to get rid of fleas include reducing time spent outside during humid weather, frequent vacuuming, washing children and pets often, and using a flea comb to help comb your pets coat.

Organic Flea Treatment

A very important aspect of flea treatment is not harming your children or pets your treating. Certain flea pesticides have been known to cause rashes, poisonings, and even death in certain pets, dependent on the strength of the pesticides.

Also, certain flea cleansing soaps are so strong, in an effort to kill the fleas, that they can be really hazardous for the environment. These soaps and pesticides can cause water pollution, as well as soil damage. To stop flea infestations use EcoSMART’s organic pesticides for guaranteed results.

Made with all organic chemicals it only targets receptors found in insects, thus pets, children, and the environment are protected and left unharmed.

I fully agree that fleas are a problem to get rid of. But finding a product that will be completely safe for the whole family and our pets. it is terrible to use pesticides to kill thus you may end up killing or making the pet deathly ill!

I have a flea problem now, I have two dogs and a cat. I flea comb them every day because I do not want to use chemicals on them.
The cat is difficult to comb and I can not bathe him as often as the dogs. I need EcoSmart.
