How To Make A Cockroach Infestation A Thing Of The Past
December 25th, 2009 Posted in Ants & Roaches
Cockroaches gross out most people because they normally appear when conditions are less than hygienic. A cockroach infestation is a nightmare for many people. Cockroaches are a health concern as well because they can contaminate food with different human diseases, even leaving a foul smelling substance in your kitchen.

Cockroaches can even irritate people’s allergies because of their saliva, feces, and cast skins. Therefore, removing their presence from your home is very important.
Identifying A Cockroach
Cockroaches are about the size of your thumb. A cockroach’s body is colored brown and is slender. They have 2 long antennas that they use for feeling around their surroundings and a set of wings that they obviously use for flying.
It is easy to know if there are cockroaches in your home because they leave a harsh smell wherever they thrive. The female cockroach attracts males by releasing pheromones, which adds to their horrible odors. Once a cockroach mates, the female lays eggs throughout your home and leaves her eggs on their own, although some species care for their young during their first days.
They eventually grow from nymph (after shedding their outer layers multiple times) to adult. The whole life cycle takes about 9 months to a year, depending on what species of cockroach you’re dealing with.
Conventional Management
Whether through a hole in the wall or hiding out in a grocery bag, cockroaches will find any way to enter your home. They are scavengers looking to eat any leftover food you leave lying around. They want warmth and moisture, both of which they can find in your home.

But, there are a few things you can do to help eliminate cockroaches. The cockroach is prevalent year round, so continuing many of the control methods often is important. Firstly, sanitation is key in preventing an infestation.
Emptying trashcans and cleaning counter tops is an easy way to prevent your home from becoming an enticing target for cockroaches. Another popular method is using a form of insect bait to lure and kill the cockroaches. Placing these baited traps throughout your home will attract and then capture the cockroaches infesting your living area. Putting food items in the trap will help further allure unsuspecting cockroaches to their doom.
Organic Management
These baited traps are quite effective when dealing with cockroaches, but pose a threat to your family. The bait is poisoned which poses a danger to your children and pets (if they come in contact with the bait). Thus, using EcoSMART’s organic Ant and Roach Killer is the only alternative for safe and effective cockroach management.

Made with all natural chemicals, the Ant and Roach Killer is completely safe for the environment. Since the insecticides only target receptors found in insects, it leaves your kids and pest completely out of harm’s way.

We moved into this house and there were a few roaches visible. Over time it’s become apparent we have a major infestation. I tried boric acid and it helped for a bit. Then THEY came back with a vengence. Help, HELP, “HELP”

Hello Geekmom,
Yes, 10° will kill cockroaches if they are exposed to such temperatures for a few hours.
Most of the time cockroaches prefer warm temperatures and will avoid cold conditions at all costs.
To avoid having to wait for the cockroach to freeze, try using EcoSMART’s Ant and Roach Killer for guaranteed quick and effective control.

Hello Marsha Hobbs,
In seems like the boric acid home remedy didn’t quite do the trick because of the severity of your cockroach invasion.
In this instance, I highly recommend using EcoSMART’s Ant And Roach Killer. In all instances are organic insecticides stop pest problems safely and quickly.
