What To Do When a Beetle Bugs You
January 1st, 2010 Posted in Beetles & Ladybugs
The only good kind of beetle invasion is the British type, spelled differently of course.

So what do you do if beetles, known as the order Coleoptera, have taken up residence in your home and become pesky guests who have overstayed their welcome?
This article will tell you:
Ways to get rid of beetles
So you’ve discovered beetles in or around your home. You have different options to get rid of them, all of which are valid.
Combining multiple techniques gives you a better chance of getting rid of those pesky beetles.

Prevention
Prevention is always the first way to go. Keeping your home clean goes a long way in keeping beetles outside.
Make sure there aren’t any stray food particles or crumbs around your home. That’s just asking for any kind of insect infestation.
Also, be sure to keep rugs and fabrics clean by washing them in warm water and soap. Make sure to vacuum regularly, as this will stave off carpet beetles.

Getting rid of an infestation
Okay, so prevention didn’t work or you already have an infestation. Now what?
If you have an indoor infestation, there are several ways to handle it.
There are many different kinds of traps that you can buy to place inside your home, most found at your local grocery or hardware store. In conjunction with traps, vacuum up any beetles you see. This will keep them from reproducing and will kill of the ones already in your home.
There are some unique ways to get rid of specific beetle species, like the Japanese Beetle, for example. Japanese Beetles are a species that came from Japan (duh!) and are known to kill grass, so they can be particularly awful for someone who loves their lush green lawn. You can use something called milky spore, which is a kind of poison that will infect the beetles. They will pass it to each other and slowly they will all die. It’s a sneaky (albeit slow) way to get rid of an infestation of Japanese Beetles.
If you find yourself with an outdoor infestation, you can use Insecticidal Soap. When mixed with water and used as a spray, it’s a great way to cover plants and keep beetles away. Keep in mind, this method is only useful outdoors, as insecticidal soap can make a mess inside your home.
Insecticides are also very effective when used outdoors. Spraying an insecticide outside your home, especially around doors and windows, will help keep more beetles from entering.

Out EcoSMART those beetles!
Need a great insecticide to get rid of beetles? You have a lot of options, as many brands and types of insecticides are available. The most common insecticides are made with synthetic pyrethroids, a group of man-made chemicals known to eradicate insects. Pyethroids have a lot of downsides, however. They are bad for the environment and can be dangerous to kids and pets.
EcoSMART is completely organic. Made from a combination of plant oils that naturally get rid of insects, EcoSMART is a natural alternative to synthetic insecticides.
There are many different types of EcoSMART that can be used to get rid of beetles, including a package deal known as the Safe Plant and Garden Value Bundle. This value bundle is perfect for getting rid of those garden beetles (and keeping them from traveling into your home.)

I am alwasy looking for a natural way of dealing with insects and I think that if there are things being created that won’t harm the water or multiple things in the surrounding area, then thats a good product.

We have an infestation of Lady Bugs during the late summer and early fall. Now in mid April the ones who made it through the winter are becomming active. They are outside the house when the sun is directly on them and in my attic by windows that face the warm sun. They get into the house which I either vaccuum or just kill with a paper towel. Please advise and help.
