How Common Are Deadly Spiders?
February 5th, 2010 Posted in Spiders & Other Arachnids
Spiders are often seen as a helpful bug because they hunt other pests. Flies and mosquitoes are one of the most prevalent pests that get caught in a spider’s web, which is one of the main reasons people like to have them around.

Many believe spiders aren’t dangerous, but in actuality they are all poisonous on some level. Are deadly spiders a threat to your family?

All Spiders Are Poisonous
All spiders regardless of species have the ability to deliver poison. To catch their prey they inject low doses of their naturally produced poison to stun them and make them easier to wrap up in a bundle of web. When people think of a poisonous spider they tend to reference one of the ten most deadly and poisonous spiders.
Spiders like the black widow, the wolf spider, or the brown recluse spider are the more common of the ten most poisonous. Despite these highly poisonous species of spiders, most spiders honestly aren’t a threat to you or your family’s safety. Even the most poisonous spiders aren’t normally a threat because they bite whilst pursuing other insects to eat, not people at random.
How To Avoid Deadly Spiders
Most spiders are completely unable to bite people because their mouths are so small. Even if they do bite a person, most species are unable to cause anything but a mild reaction in a person. Therefore, you only need worry about specific species of spiders. They will not attack you out of the clear blue sky, but they will protect themselves if they feel threatened.

Don’t handle spiders like the black widow because they might get frightened and bite you. Clean your home often to help prevent spiders from coming inside. Other pests will be drawn to your home if it is dirty and then spiders will follow to eat those pests. Spider bite prevention is easy if you are vigilant. Check your clothes before and after putting them on to ensure there is not any spiders hiding in your clothes.
When outdoors (specifically in wooded areas) be extra careful that you aren’t sitting on any spiders and that you aren’t near any spider webs. Sitting on a spider (if you don’t kill it) or tampering with their web will cause the spider to act in their own defense and this could mean a poisonous bite for you or a loved one. In the end, give the spider its space and you will be completely free of any spider bites.

Here is another tip for spider avoidance, We live out in the woods in an old house. So everyspring and summer (and even throughout the fall and winter) our basement gets infested with spiders. Unfortunately the main bugger is the hobo followed by the similar looking aggressive house spiders. To keep my hands safe whenever I have to go grab things out of the basement I always wear a nice pair of leather work gloves (keep them hanging right by the basement door) Hobo’s like building their nests in tight crevices, just like the spaces you have to stick your fingers to pick things up, and the thick leather of the gloves keeps your digits safe.
