Awesome! I have an African serval (cat the size of a large dog) so I’m super picky about toxins, along with health problems of my own. For some reason the flies congregate right outside my front door. I’ve never had much luck growing basil, but I think it’s time to try again, with a nice hanging basket. I live in an area that goes from cold moist to warm moist all year round, so flies are a constant problem. I’m going to try the paper bag trick in the cat area and go beg some wine off the neighbors!

I just found this site & will try several of these remedies. Like the others who posted, I am having a terrible time with flies this year. We never had a problem in the previous years. I washed out the trash cans and moved them farther from the house in hopes of detering the pesky varmits. I can’t figure out how they are getting in though. All the doors & windows are closed & they are still coming in! Evry time I turn around there are a dozen more!! Aaarrrgghhhh!!

wow!I live in Sandy Valley,NV and inside our house is FILLED with flies! we have lots of animals and we ran out of bug poison (we live far away from the nearest store) and with this stuff it helped ALOT thank you for giving us these remedy’s for flies

I can’t seem to get rid of houseflies since I have a cat & litter box in the house. I change the litter regularly and clean the litter pan, but the flies congregate and circle in the air which drives me crazy! To me, flies are disgusting and the ultimate dirty sign of an unclean house. Trying to find/use natural products and ideas because I’ve read that chemicals are not only harmful but can actually change your DNA and cause life threatening diseases.

Wow, I feel like I have found friends here. Lol. I am at my wit’s end as well with the fly problem we have. I thought they went away in the winter but we have them as bad as ever. It has gotten to the point that I clean constantly and will not cook or eat in my own home. The flies have taken over our house, without question. We have horses next door and a guinea pig inside the house. Can you see why we have flies so bad? I feel like screaming on a daily, hourly, basis. I can’t live like this anymore. What about the wine and detergent when you have cats hanging around? Will they be attracted to it? For some reason, we have black house flies at the front door of our home~~ no debris or garbage there, but that is where they want to hang out! UGH!

I have recently been diagnosed with asthma but right before the diagnosis my husband sprayed our whole house with fly spray. I almost passed out. So I started researching fly remedies some I found were cloves, basil, mint, eucalyptus, and the homemade fly paper. I am trying cloves, basil and because I have no eucalyptus, teatree oil in vinegar. I’m also trying my version of the trap, prepackaged single serving koolaid in a gallon jug with water at the bottom and a little syrup for added fly appeal. My next step is homemade flypaper, i’ll pop back and let posters know what worked and what didn’t.

OMG…this is another great post. I am trying all of these remedies for our fly problem in CA home in Indio. Flies are so bothersome and maybe I’ll get a grip of them with these tips.
