By now, you have surely heard many arguments for and against organic living. Specifically, this blog has talked about the benefits of organic pesticides versus those made from chemicals.

Read on to learn the top 10 reasons an organic pesticide recipe is better than one filled with chemicals.

Why should you buy products made from an organic pesticide recipe?

They are: Safe to Use Around Children and Pets, Special EPA Approval, Insects Won’t Develop Resistance, Will Not Harm Wildlife, Avoids the Side Effects of Chemicals, Ingredients Won’t Contaminate Groundwater, Kills a Variety of Bugs, Products are Inexpensive, Ingredients Have a Sweet Aroma, Corresponds with an Organic Lifestyle

  1. Safe to Use Around Children and Pets
  2. One of the main benefits of an organic pesticide recipe, is the recipe includes ingredients found in nature. Many organic pesticides’ active ingredients are rosemary, peppermint, cinnamon, or eucalyptus oil. So when you use these products, you won’t have to worry about your family members breathing in harsh chemicals.

  3. Special EPA Approval
  4. When dealing with chemical pesticides, there are all types of restrictions and guidelines placed on them by the Environmental Protection Agency. But when pesticides are organic, the EPA considers their ingredients, both active and otherwise, demonstrably safe for the intended use. You won’t find the word “safe” written on a pesticide filled with chemicals.

  5. Insects Won’t Develop Resistance
  6. Studies show that insects can sometimes develop chemical pesticide resistance. How does this happen? When chemical pesticides are sprayed, some insects are genetically predisposed to resist the chemicals. So the more chemicals that are sprayed, the more mosquitoes without this gene are killed. This leaves the insects with the resistance gene to reproduce, passing along their chemical fighting ability. But organic pesticides bring no possible resistance with them. So no bug is safe from a deadly organic pesticide recipe.

  7. Will Not Harm Wildlife
  8. Because the ingredients in an organic pesticide only target neuroreceptors found in insects, other animals are safe. While the combination of ingredients such as rosemary, peppermint and cinnamon are deadly for insects, other creatures are safe.

  9. Avoids the side effects of chemicals
  10. When you purchase a chemical pesticide, you don’t always know how those chemicals will affect you. There are numerous health risks when you are overexposed. Why take that chance when organic pesticides are safer?

  11. Ingredients Won’t Contaminate Groundwater
  12. When you spray the ground with chemicals, there is a strong possibility those chemicals may run off into groundwater. And somewhere down the line, this water may be ingested by a wild animal or even a human being. Organic pesticide recipes call for natural ingredients which do not persist in the environment so there’s no risk of chemical runoff.

  13. Kills a Variety of Bugs
  14. Many organic pesticides, including EcoSMART’s products, will kill all kinds of bugs that you find in your home or garden. For example, natural ant killers, can also be used on roaches, crickets, pill bugs and silverfish.

  15. Products are Inexpensive
  16. Sometimes people associate organic with more expensive products. When you go to the grocery store, you may notice the often higher price of organic produce. However, many organic pesticides are around the same price as chemical pesticides.

  17. Products Have a Sweet Aroma
  18. Compare an organic pesticide recipe to a synthetic one and you will smell the difference. Organic pesticides contains ingredients like cinnamon and peppermint. Wouldn’t you rather your home smelled like a spicy mint than an unidentifiable chemical funk?

  19. Corresponds with an Organic Lifestyle
  20. Finally, using organic pesticides is another way to live a more natural, organic lifestyle. You don’t always want to buy fruit and vegetables sprayed with chemicals, so don’t use these chemicals in your own home and backyard.

With all these reasons, everyone should make the switch to organic pesticides. The ingredients in an organic pesticide recipe are not only natural, they are safe and effective.

I am interested in finding a natural way to rid our lawn of crane flies / larvae. Where are the organic pesticides available in our area (zip code 98563), and what do they contain? I have a dog, cat, chickens to consider. We have several patches in our yard infested. Also, cost is a big consideration. Thank you, Marcie

    Hi Marcie,

On EcoSMART’s website, we have an application that allows you to type in your zip code. It will then point you to the nearest retailer that sells EcoSMART.

You can also shop online for EcoSMART products. Our products contain only natural ingredients that are safe to use around your pets. They are also inexpensive, thanks for your interest!

Hi–I am wondering if the insect-bee-wasp-spray will kill carpenter bees??

  5. By EcoSMART Megan on Mar 3, 2010

    Hi Janet,

I would recommend the Wasp and Hornet Killer and/or the Ant and Roach Killer.

You’ll have the best results if you spray the carpenter bees when they are in their nest.

    Best of luck!

    Help!

How do I neutralize the over-powering smell of cinnamon that remains in my room 3 days after using your Ant and Roach Killer??

I tried to get some customer service at your 877 telephone number and only got voicemail… I looked for a product FAQ on your website, but you don’t have one.

3 days ago I sprayed around the baseboard of my bedroom for ants. I applied it liberally – your product label doesn’t give any warning about how much to use – but it does say in two places “Safe to use around children and pets.” I am an adult and my eyes water when I go into the room and my throat is irritated at night – I feel like I am living inside the hole of a Cinnamon Lifesaver.

I have scrubbed the baseboard with soap and water and aired out the room for 2 days (although I need to close the window when I try to sleep at night because it is cold outside). The scent has decreased some, but it still irritates my eyes and throat and interferes with my sleep.

Is there any way I can neutralize the ingredients. I already tried washing it with a lot of soap and water – but I obviously cannot scrub behind or underneath the baseboard.

I hope you can suggest something.

    Thank you,
    Tom Williams

    Dear Tom Williams,

The only downside to working will essential oils (like those in the Ant and Roach Killer) is their fragrance can be powerful.

If soap and water doesn’t work, vinegar and baking soda are also great odor neutralizers.

You can apply baking soda dry to the area and vacuum after an hour or mix and spray with warm water. Also try leaving a box open in the room to absorb the odor.

Also continue to air out the room or use a fan to circulate air.

    Good luck!

Thank you for your prompt reply. I will give the vinegar and baking soda a try.

By the way, your Ant and Roach Killer is effective. The Ants are gone. I’ll give it a try on the outdoor ant trails.

    Tom
