Grandma EcoSMART’s Natural Pesticide Recipe …Revealed!
February 26th, 2010 Posted in Organic & Chemical Pesticides
Think of that one truly awesome dish your grandmother makes. Is it some secret spice she uses in her meatloaf? Or the magic ratio of sugar to butter she uses in her pie crusts? Your grandmother may never tell you her trade secrets, but EcoSMART wants to pass our grandma’s natural pesticide recipe along.
We can’t tell you exactly how she does it, that is still top secret. But we can tell you key ingredients, why they work and special tips for organic gardening. But you didn’t hear it from us…

Read on to find out:
Main Ingredients
EcoSMART products only use natural active ingredients in their pesticide recipes. Unlike other pesticides, there is not just one synthetic chemical we put in to kill any pest you got. Our natural pesticide recipe calls for just the right amount of each ingredient to kill pests. But at the same time, these deadly pest combinations cause no damage to the Earth or your family.
Surprisingly, many of these ingredients can be found in your cabinets or on your spice rack. We like to tap into their powerful essential oils to attack and kill bugs.

A few deadly essential oils include:
- Rosemary Oil
- Thyme Oil
- Peppermint Oil
- Clove Oil
- Cinnamon Oil
- Sesame Oil
By deadly, we mean only to pests. Our natural pesticide recipe calls for these ingredients because they are effective with an added organic bonus. You won’t need to worry about chemical run off into water sources or a sick dog after he runs around a treated lawn. But how does this work? Are we wizards? Not exactly.
Why They Work
It comes down to one simple word: octopamine. Octopa-wha?
Octopamine is an insect’s version of adrenaline. It is present in many tissues throughout an insect’s body. This means octopamine is crucial in almost every physiological process. In an insect’s central nervous system, octopamine contributes to sensory inputs, learning and memory and the overall mood regulation.
Clearly, octopamine is crucial to an insect’s entire nervous system. The plant oils in our organic pesticide target octopamine receptors in an insect’s body. This attacks the insects’ nervous system and causes a meltdown from the inside, out.
What’s happening on the inside
- Plant oils get into the insect’s exoskeleton
- The oils block the octopamine’s neuroreceptor sites
- These blockages keep octopamine from binding within the nervous system
- Insect has a central nervous breakdown
- Insect is killed
Because insects are the only creatures with these octopamine receptor sites, insects are the only living thing affected. So unlike chemical pesticides, pesticides made with a natural pesticide recipe have no harmful side effects for other animals, humans or the environment.
Grandma’s Tips
You now know what’s in our natural pesticide recipe and how exactly it works on insects.

Here are a few helpful tips about organic gardening and natural pest control:
- Know what insects are most attracted by your plants (for example, squash bugs love squash, pumpkin and cucumbers).
- Grow plants that will help ward off insects, such as marigolds, rosemary and catnip.
- Plant native plant species whenever possible. They have better immune systems to common pests in your area.
- Maintain healthy soil with compost and mulch.
- Add nutrients to the soil by tilling older plants.
- Use an all natural bug spray to protect yourself while gardening.
- Know the signs of distress for each of your plants so you can catch pests early.
Now that you know the key to Grandma EcoSMART’s success, you have no excuse to not use organic pesticides. Our natural pesticide recipe is effective and safe to use around family and pets. But remember, this is our little secret.

I just tried the weed killer for the first time. After an hour, it seems to work well. I can not find the other products in my local store, but will start looking.

I am having weed problems coming through the rock because the homeowners before us laid down cheap weed fabric (more like plastic!). They also put way to much rock for a backyard, they must have gotten it 1/2 off! I went to walmart and went to browse and saw this product. I also saw another high competitors product claiming to be Eco Friendly and pet safe and the whole bit. I didn’t trust them because of the other things they make why would they now sell something safe and still sell the toxic stuff? I picked up a bottle of EcoSmart weed and grass killer…came home and sprayed the weeds. I swear in 1 hour they were dying! I haven’t even witnessed with the toxic stuff this fast of a killing of the weeds! I still kept the dogs in the house while I sprayed since they are Basset hounds who have a strong sense of smell since all of EcoSmarts ingredients seem to have a great smell to them!

Great product. I have a small child and a smaller dog. I really worry about what I could introduce into a very closed environment that the home is. I would love to test any products and would be very happy to review and or blog about the products. I have used your spider killer and your home spray in the large container and have been very satisfied. And others are correct when they say that it actually makes your house smell good as opposed to chemically tainted.
Thanks for the info

Just found your product and trying it out for the 1st time for a flea infestation of our home. I and Wife, who is a small time herbalist, always like to go natural because of the animals we have. However, having Grandchildren, along with cats and dogs presents “Different Organ Dangers”, even with natural products, in that most herbs won’t harm a dog or child—but, will make EXTREMELY SICK or KILL a cat. Does EcoSmart “organic home pest control” have any bad side effect on cats?
Also is all of your other products Children and pet safe, with any mention of NOT to use around certain animals/people on the label?
Thanks for going natural at a decent cost
