Safe Home Pest Control

Having a consistent plan of attack will greatly help your pest control efforts. Regardless, if you’re a college student, a mother, or a family of four this is the guide for total pest control.

Step 1: Prevention

Prevention is a key step in the entire pest control process. If you set up a proper pest prevention system than you’re more than likely to succeed in stopping your pest problems before they begin. Many insects are drawn to your home when it is somewhat unsanitary.

Bugs like ants or flies are drawn to the smell of trash or the remnants of eaten food. In order to reduce your home’s attractiveness to insects make sure to keep your home clean and tidy. Wash the floors, counters, and surfaces throughout your home to help clean any food remnants or filth.

Empty your trash cans inside and outside of your home at least once a week. This will help to rotate how long trash sits in one spot. This will greatly reduce the allure of your home to insects looking to invade your family’s space.

Step 2: Identification

There are over a million species of insects on Earth today. There are even more out there waiting to be discovered. This is a problem because it makes identifying which bugs are in your home very difficult, unless you directly see them. Identification is key because knowing what bugs are pestering you can help you choose which means of control to stop them.

A few indicators can help with insect identification, such as season, where the bugs are in your house, and when these bugs are a nuisance. Bugs thrive during different seasons throughout the year and knowing what bugs are active during what seasons can be a big help. For instance, cockroaches are active in your home during the winter because they are drawn to the heat your home provides. Bees are the most active during the spring because this is the time when flowers are blooming.

Bees rely on blooming flowers to produce honey for their hive and therefore are inactive until the spring and summer months. The location of your pest problem is vital to identifying what bugs are in your home. If you are itching constantly in bed then it is likely some form of a bed bug that is bothering you. If issues arise in your kitchen it may be ants or cockroaches because these bugs are often drawn to the kitchen.

Lastly, certain bugs are nocturnal and therefore only operate in the evening. For example, moths and crickets are nocturnal, which makes them pests in the evening hours and wasps are active during the daytime making them pests during the day. Identifying what time of day you have pest issues can really help to narrow down what bugs are a problem.

Step 3: Choosing The Right Method

There is a multitude of methods of home pest control available today; however some are better than others. Using chemical insecticides is one of the most effective ways of dealing with pests in your home. These pesticides, which can be purchased at most stores, are loaded with chemicals that quickly kill insects on contact. This is one of the most popular methods of home pest control today.

This is a quick and effective way of dealing with pests, but can also have harmful side effects around your children and pets. Just like store bought chemical pesticide, hiring an extermination service can be effective, but potentially hazardous. Hiring an exterminator is an easy hands free approach to dealing with annoying insects, but these chemical pesticides are not very safe for use around people or pets.

Organic home pest control is the only way to deal with pest problems effectively and safely. EcoSMART has produced organic insecticides from peppermint oils and other natural ingredients. Since it is all natural, your children, your pets, and the environment are out of harms way when using EcoSMART.

    Dear Dave,

Unfortunately, EcoSMART products cannot be shipped overseas.

My advice is to perform an online search for organic pesticide and insecticide retailers located in the UK. I’m sure you’ll find some good ones!
