At EcoSMART, it is our firm belief that natural is better. That is why we commit to only creating insecticides and pesticides that are organic but still powerful. This includes mosquito repellent.

Here are ten reasons mosquito repellent natural options are better:

Products Are EPA Exempt, Avoid DEET Poisoning, No Harmful Side Effects, Keep Away More Than Just Mosquitoes, Protect Your Children, Safe to Use Around Pets, Smell Great Even When Wearing Repellent, No Mystery Chemicals, Keep Away Mosquitoes Which Transmit Diseases, Safe to Spray Indoors,

  1. Products Are EPA Exempt
  2. What does this mean? The Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, keeps a close watch on products in the market. In order to be classified as EPA Exempt, specific requirements must be met that prove products are safe.

EcoSMART’s mosquito repellent falls in the minimum risk pesticides class. This means it is not subject to federal registration requirements because the ingredients are “demonstrably” (proven) safe for repelling mosquitoes and other pests.

  3. Avoid DEET Poisoning
  4. The most popular active ingredient in non-organic mosquito repellent is DEET. Although effective, DEET is still a chemical and it can get into your system and cause harm.

If DEET gets into your body, you are susceptible to DEET poisoning, which is NOT a pleasant experience.

    DEET poisoning can cause:

    • Eye irritation
    • Abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting
    • Burning sensation of the mouth, tongue and lips
    • Ingestion can even effect your central nervous system

These are just a few of the complications from DEET poisoning, avoid them all together by choosing mosquito repellent natural options.

  5. No Harmful Side Effects
  6. Now that you’ve been warned of the dangers associated with DEET, you might be wondering what harm mosquito repellent natural options could cause.

While you should not ingest natural repellents, they otherwise pose no threat the humans.

  7. Keep Away More Than Just Mosquitoes
  8. If you look closely, you’ll notice and added bonus listed on EcoSMART’s all natural insect repellent label. Spray this on and the mosquitoes won’t be the only ones keeping away.

It is called insect repellent, and not mosquito repellent, because ticks and gnats are also put off by this powerful product.

  9. Protect Your Children
  10. If you choose a chemical repellent over a natural one, DEET repellents can have a very high level of chemicals to repel mosquitoes and these high levels bring danger.

Sonya Lunder, a senior analyst at the Environmental Working Group, cautions people on the use of DEET. She says DEET should be applied to clothing, not your children’s skin, and to look for pumps instead of aerosol DEET repellents to protect your children from breathing in too many chemicals.

Why worry about all of that when you can use a natural mosquito repellent instead?

  11. Safe to Use Around Pets
  12. It happens every time you come home from work or sit down with a plate of food, your dog is just dieing to be all over you.

But when you and your family are spraying chemical mosquito repellent on yourselves, this is not the time for your dog to jump up and start sniffing around. But if you switch to a mosquito repellent natural option, your pets do not need to leave the room.

While it is not recommended for use directly on pets, natural repellent is not as harmful as when you use a chemical repellent around your pets.

  13. Smell Great Even When Wearing Repellent
  14. One major problem many have with chemical mosquito repellents is the strong, synthetic smell they leave on your skin.

EcoSMART’s organic bug repellent, is made from essential oils which leave a pleasant, non-chemical smell behind.

  15. No Mystery Chemicals
  16. Because only natural ingredients, like essential oils, are used, you won’t need a dictionary to decipher the labels. Natural mosquito repellents have ingredients like peppermint, cinnamon leaf and lemon grass oil.

While a little mystery in life can be good, no one should be kept guessing what they are spraying on their body and around their home.

  17. Keep Away Mosquitoes Which Transmit Diseases
  18. One of the main reasons people loathe mosquitoes so much is the dangerous diseases they are known to carry. The CDC warns us of a variety of diseases transmitted by mosquitoes. These include malaria, West Nile Virus and St. Louis encephalitis to name a few.

Put on a natural mosquito repellent to keep mosquitoes from getting too close.

  19. Safe to Spray Indoors
  20. Natural mosquito repellents are safe to use indoors and outdoors. You will not need to worry about stepping outside unprotected to use them, so as not harm anything or anyone indoors.

After reading these top 10 reasons, is it any wonder people feel so strongly about mosquito repellent natural options.

Do you have any reasons to add to the list?

Going camping this summer and hate the feel of mosquito spray. Very curious to feel what the spray is like.

Also need to repel terrible ticks.

Wisconsin is where I am at and both pests are everywhere.
