Prevention
Prevention is often considered one of the most effective means of control for most species of insects, especially control of the mosquito. Mosquitoes bite you to suck your blood and as a result transmit a disease like malaria, yellow fever, the West Nile virus, or more into your blood stream. To help prevent this from happening follow these mosquito prevention tips below:

  1. Mosquitoes need water to breed, so reducing the amount of standing water around your property will help prevent mosquitoes from appearing.
  2. Add or repair your screens on your windows and doors to prevent mosquitoes from entering your home.

  4. If you have a pond, fountain, or larger bird feeder add fish to it that eat mosquito larvae, this will eliminate mosquitoes before they mature.
  5. Make sure to clean your pond, fountains, or bird feeders often to prevent the water from remaining stagnant.
  6. Avoid being outside during dusk and dawn when mosquitoes tend to thrive the most often.
  7. Drill small holes in the bottom of flower pots, recycling containers, trash cans, and other types of containers to prevent water from building up.

Repellents
The other effective means of stopping the mosquito is by repelling them. Repellents aim to make a person unattractive to a mosquito. A repellent will make the areas where a mosquito would normally bite you, unappealing. However, repellents aren’t meant to kill the mosquito.

They aim to stop the mosquito in its tracks leaving both you and the mosquito unharmed in the process. DEET is a strong chemical often used in many commercially produced pesticides. It is one of the most active ingredients in such pesticides and works wonders at repelling mosquitoes.

The only negative aspect of this chemical is when it his absorbed into your body in large quantities. This is when it can cause issues throughout your various bodily systems. EcoSMART’s organic mosquito repellent is the only alternative to chemical based repellents because it is produced with all natural chemicals.

This makes this repellent an all natural bug repellent that is safe for use around your children and pets, while also safe for the environment. Therefore, why wouldn’t you want to avoid mosquitoes and be safe all at the same time?

I love this article! Thanks for the great tips – I especially like the one about prevention and drilling holes in items to eliminate water. I think there is a time for both prevention and repellent – depends on your situation! And now repellent is ok to use with your product! I love it!
