Why You Need an Organic Bed Bug Killer
April 18th, 2010 Posted in Bed Bugs & FleasJust the name “bed bugs” is enough to make your skin crawl.
Blissful sleepers don’t want to imagine a tiny army of bugs on their mattresses. It brings a whole new meaning to the phrase, “sleeping with the enemy.”

But if you know why infestations start and what the risks are, you can use an organic bed bug killer to tackle the problem.
Read on for more information about dealing with bed bugs.
How Infestations Start
Bed bugs are particularly tricky because it’s hard to identify where they originate from. Bed bugs are often compared to hitchhikers because the attach to clothing, luggage etc. to move from place to place.
Common modes of transportation for bed bugs include:
- luggage
- clothing
- beds
- furniture
Traveled or moved lately? Bed bugs are a big problem in hotels, motels and apartments where guests and tenants change frequently.

Because they are so tiny, bed bugs are easy to miss when they get into your luggage or clothing. If you’ve bought secondhand furniture that was infested, this will introduce the problem into your home, as well.
However they travel, once they’re in they can spread through the whole home or building. Bed bugs will either crawl themselves or travel on a person’s clothing.
Did you know? Level of cleanliness has little to do with bed bug infestations. As long as the area has hiding spots and warm-blooded people, bed bugs may become a problem and you’ll need an organic bed bug killer.
This is just another reason why bed bugs are exceptionally frustrating. You should use home pest control methods, but tailor them to your specific bed bug problem.
If you don’t attack them early, they will start attacking you.
Damage Bed Bugs Cause
Once a piece of clothing or furniture is infested, bed bugs begin their attack. Bed bugs cause damage to your home and your body when they feed on you while you sleep.
Damage to your body
Bed bugs pierce your skin with their long mouthparts. These mouthparts are usually folded under, but come out when they feed.
Feeding can take up to 10 minutes and will feel like a pin prick. If you feel anything at all, that is. Feeding usually occurs at night, so people are often not aware of bed bug bites and sleep through them.
But you will notice bites when the saliva injected during the feeding produces red, itchy bumps on your skin. These can also become irritated and infected if scratched.
The only good news is bed bugs are not known disease carriers.
Damage to your home
Bed bugs have glands that produce a foul smelling odor in your home.
A good way to tell where the smell and bites are coming from is to inspect your bed. Bed bugs will often leave fecal spots on sheets or in their other hiding places. These spots are dark red, tiny and relatively round against your pristine, clean sheets.

Now that you know how they can harm you and where to find them, time to break out the organic bed bug killer and get to work.
How to Control a Bed Bug Problem
Once the problem has been identified, you have to act fast to prevent bed bugs from spreading all over your home.
Control bed bugs by:
- Sealing your mattress and pillow with a plastic/hypoallergenic zipped cover
- Washing all linens and placing them in a hot dryer for 20 minutes
- Vacuuming the surface then immediately placing the vacuum bag in a tightly sealed plastic bag and disposing of it
- There are “green” insecticides, as well as organic pesticides, used by professionals, such as EcoPCO and EcoEXEMPT, they can use as a “green” bed bug killer where bed bugs activity is detected
Because you don’t want to sleep in a bed of chemicals, it’s important you use only an organic bed bug killer.
This protects your skin from irritating chemicals AND irritating bed bugs. It’s a no brainer.

I think I might have bed bugs because of bites. I haven’t seen anything besides the bites, but really want to try something natural to take care of the problem. Hope to find your product at Home Depot or WalMart.

My 15 month old grandaughter and 5 year old grandson have a big problem with bug bites. We have no animals in the house. We need something safe and affective to protect them. Can you tell me where we can find your product?

Kathy,
A bite from a bed bug will usually produce 3 welts in a row, but not allways..when you first start getting bites ,they are
usually at their worst … then as you continue to get bit over time , your system does not act quite as badly. & the itch less severe.. each person reacts differently & some people have no reaction at all to the bites. i had quite a severe reaction in the beginning & the itches & welts lasted for days..You prob havent seen any bedbugs because they scurry off & hide after biting you…& also, the newly hatched nymphs are tannish & almost like a grain of sand….it is good to have some scotch tape handy to catch them ,if you wake up from being bit . if they have just fed on you , then u will see what looks like a very tiny grain of blood moving across the sheet or pillow…. the adult ones are red from subsequent feeding & if just fed, a bright red… at least they can be seen.. allways keep a flash light handy , i sleep with one… & remember each bed bug you catch or kill cannot go on to produce more ..

I have used Ecosmart to get rid of pantry pests, and it was amazing. I would even like to be a distributor. We are having trouble with what we think are bed bugs now, and need to know what product is supposed to work for that.

Hi
I bought a used bunkbed set for my boys about a month and a half ago…we kept our mattresses….anyway, I’ve noticed one of my kids had ‘mosquito bites’ so I thought….We recently took a trip out of state, and his skin cleared up, returned home, the next morning again, more bug bites. We stripped their beds, steamed the mattresses (not knowing exactly what we were dealing with) and then that night after they were asleep for a few hours, I checked on my oldest (who seems to be the target) and yes, bed bugs!!! Evidently coming from this bunk bed. No bedbugs in our (mom and dad) bed, no bites etc. We did all their laundry, hot water/bleach/and hot dry. We bagged up books, and bagged up bedding after washing/drying. My question is, we used the ecosmart home spray in their room, all the corners (we threw out the mattresses, and bunk bed), along the bottom of the wall, etc…..it doesn’t clearly say “bed bugs” on the ecosmart bottle…are bedbugs covered?
Thanks
Sue

We have carpet throughout our upstairs and recently my daughter had some flea bites and my wife being a big beleiver in green products insisted that we find some organic treatment as we were goign to spray it on the beg my daughter sleeps on. I bought the home pest Ecosmart and sprayed it all over the house and where the cats hang out.
Worked like a charm. I was very skeptical about this product but I’m now a true fan of it. I will be getting more products from you. You can’t beat the price at Home Depot for your product. Simply amazing results.

Our site concurs with you on an organic and non-hysterical approach to bed bug treatment. Almost every “mainstream” article or news story hypes the “DDT” red herring story about how bed bugs where all but exterminated 50 years ago. If we let this go unchallenged, and the coming mid-term elections turn out the way the pollsters are predicting, we will probably be seeing renewed legislation challenging the current DDT ban in the U.S. along with fast tracking of other potentially high risk Organochloride pesticides.

I have purchased your EcoSmart Insecticide tonight and I am about to use it against a scabies problem in our home, affecting us and our grandkids. Please tell me what kind of effect this product will have on scabies. You say that it kills a hundred different bugs, but not specifically listing them leaves me only to guess at whether it will work on our problem or not.

I have been getting eaten alive in my sleep and when I saw a bed bug the other day I started looking for some bed bug spray. I went to home depot and I saw other brands that clearly stated on the can, HARMFUL to human and pets!! But with my pet poodle it was out of the question and I didn’t want to get sick either. I saw Ecosmart Home Pest Control and was doubtful because it didn’t say specifically it kill bed bugs so I whipped out my Iphone and searched online and I saw this blog so I took a chance. Got home lifted the mattress and box spring and started spraying, the box spring was the worse, and the spray instantly killed them. What a great find!!, and safe too!! I’m gonna share this with my mother who has rental properties.

I want to find a more natural way to take care of my bedbug nightmare. The first time I got them in my apartment the management called an exterminator company that saturated my bedding, mattress and carpet with poison and then on top of that they fogged! They told me to stay away for 8 hours and then it would be safe to come home. When I got home after more than 8 hours, everything was still wet, my expensive down pillows were ruined and I got a horrible headache and nauseated. I had to leave, but with no place else to go, sat in the lobby for hours! Now the bedbugs are back again and because I have such a severe reaction to the bites I want to do something immediately. The thing is I didn’t buy any new furniture and I haven’t traveled anywhere, so this whole apt building has to be infested with them! I hate bugs so much, that the thought of bedbugs crawling on me while I sleep really freaks me out! I searched the web for an eco-friendly bedbug spray and found your site. EVERY post said this product worked like a charm, so I’ll be going out to get it tomorrow after work. I certainly hope I have the same great results.
