Keep Hiking Fun
Whether your hiking the Appalachian Mountains or the nearby park; it is supposed to be a leisurely experience you can enjoy with friends and family alike. When you walk away from a hiking trip with dozens of red, itchy, and irritated bites, no one is happy. Preparing for the possibility of mosquito bites is important way to ensure the fun lasts.

When you hike, it’s normally hot and humid outside, so wearing layers to protect your skin from bites might not be a great feeling. Try buying loose, flowing, and light material clothing to help protect your skin from unsightly bits, but at the same time keeping you cool while you hike. Hiking insect prevention is as easy as wearing a hat to protect your scalp from the sun and from thirsty ticks looking to draw blood.

Staying in the sun is also a helpful prevention technique because although ticks and mosquitoes will still be present; they’ll be in less numbers in the sun than in the shady or darker areas. Hiking in open areas is a better route to take than choosing to hike around in an enclosed forest. There is more wind in open areas, blowing mosquitoes around and preventing them from bothering your family.

The American Hiking Society suggests hiking in open areas is safer overall, not only for insect control. Bears, cougars, and other potentially dangerous animals can be spotted easier in open hiking trails than in an enclosed forest. Therefore, your family’s potential for bug bites and dangerous circumstances is decreased in open hiking areas and trails.

Organic Control
Another way to successfully control ticks, mosquitoes, and other pesky critters is EcoSMART’s organic bug repellent. Repellents have been used to help prevent bug bites and pest problems for years, but with a heavy reliance on chemical additives. EcoSMART’s all natural bug repellent is made with ingredients that naturally occur in nature, like cinnamon and sage oils.

These organic repellents block receptors in insects, stopping them from bothering you and your family. Chemical repellents contain harmful ingredients that aren’t safe for use around pets, plants, and people in large amounts. Nonetheless, repellents are one of the best ways for continued mosquito control and tick bite prevention for all your hiking needs.
