The Stink Bug Story
Many people have seen these shield-shaped bugs in and around their house, but not everyone knows the stink bug story.
Like many insects, stink bugs are migratory. They move north in the winter and south in the summer, seeking food and warmth.
However, if temperatures drop too much, stink bugs will look for a place to hibernate, which brings them into attics, bathrooms, garages and more. This is a huge annoyance for homeowners.
While inside, stink bugs secrete their famous odor, which can linger for more than 6 months. The lasting smell actually attracts stink bugs, old and new alike, to come back into the house during the next winter season. These odors can be scrubbed away with soapy water.
When stink bugs are not busy infesting homes, they eat. Their diet may include small insects, but more commonly consists of juicy fruits and vegetables. Melons, tomatoes and berries are just a few of the stink bugs’ favorite meals.

The eating pattern of stink bugs is highly inefficient, which is why they can cause such a great amount of crop damage. Instead of eating an entire tomato or melon, stink bugs will take a few bites and then move onto something new. A high stink bug population could leave you crop-less in just a couple of weeks!
Using proper organic stink bug prevention and control techniques is critical if you want to stop the infestation.

This is so true about sealing any small openings in your house. Our 2-story Living Room was constantly being invaded by stink bugs. We couldn’t figure out how they were getting in since the windows did not open. Finally, after non-stop badgering from me, my husband decided to caulk the barely visible crack near the corner of one of the window. And, BINGO! The stink bugs stopped coming in. It’s amazing what little space they need to get in. Now I go around the house looking for any place where they might find their way in – no matter how small. It’s the best place to start.

We fight stink bugs constantly! We have a produce business, and our gardens were full of them this past year. When I would grab the okra to cut it, I would grab stink bugs and squash them. They were in the bean patch. I was constantly killing baby stink bugs by the hundreds!
