Dallas- Day 2

Dallas- Day 2

Dallas- Day 2 Today was the grand finale of our Summer Safe Spray tour! We got up earlier than usual to make sure we made it to a really cool farmers market we had heard about the other day. This was a smaller European style farmers market on McKinny called The Four Season’s Farmers Market. There was a white tent set up with about twenty different tables with all kinds of local goods. There was wine tasting, honey sticks, homemade soaps and lotions, and lots of goodies made only miles away. This was a place where small home...

Dallas- Day 1

Dallas- Day 1

Dallas- Day 1 We are just starting to acclimate to the heat right before we leave the hot south. Dallas has been more fun than we had thought. We pulled up to the Pearl Street farmers market and were surprised to find, it was the biggest one we have been to yet. There were more than three outdoor barn type building housing different kinds of plants, produce, and baked goods. There was a wonderfully air conditioned area where they sold sweets, meats, and more. As we handed out samples we were almost stuffed on fresh fruits and...

Austin- Day 2

Austin- Day 2

Austin- Day 2 This morning we went to the Children’s Day Art Park event in Austin. Kids and parents walked around the various art stations as a live band played children’s songs on a small stage. Kids showed off their temporary tattoos and colorful face paint. A woman that runs a local daycare was overjoyed to have a safe solution to her ant problem.  On our way back to the Jeep a woman stopped us to ask what we were doing. When we told her we were promoting safe pesticides she became excited and told us a few stories...

Austin- Day 1

Austin- Day 1

Austin- Day 1 We started our trip to Austin by visiting the Capitol building. It is a big, beautiful building that sits in the city center. Tourists dotted the lawn as they stopped at fountains, statues, and signs that explained the significance and history of Texas’ past. The city officials were friendly and enjoyed our samples and encouraged us to explore all that Austin has to offer. Next we made the trek to a quaint town right outside Austin called Pflugerville. We pulled up to the farmers market that was housed in a giant,...

San Antonio- Day 2

San Antonio- Day 2

San Antonio- Day 2 We started at Pearl Market and started our morning by watched a cooking demo by The Monterey. They gave out samples of a light rose wine as they taught how to cook pork chops from a wonderful local farm called South Texas Heritage Pork. We watched as they prepared the meat, de-boned it, and seasoned it as onlookers sipped wine and enjoyed the aroma. I continued sampling pasties, cheese, and other tasty treats as Mara found her way over over to Ms. Chocolatier’s stand and tried some amazing Mexican chocolate ...

San Antonio- Day 1

San Antonio- Day 1

San Antonio- Day 1 Our first day in San Antonio began as we thought it would…hot! We headed down to the famous River Walk where people were enjoying the scenery along the river. Beautiful bridges dotted the horizon and boats filled with tourists passed down the water beneath us. We handed out samples to many families that had come to San Antonio to celebrate the graduation of their friends of families from basic training at Lackland Airforce Base. We spent a lot of time talking with other locals who were working at various...

Phoenix – Day 2

Phoenix – Day 2

Phoenix – Day 2 We started our second day in Phoenix at 8:30 in the morning and it was hotter than hot before we even knew what happened. We headed to the valley to the Wigwam Farmer’s Market. Mara made a beeline for the first coffee tent she saw. They just happened to be one of only creme brûlée vendors in United States. They sat back as they watched our faces while we tried their signature Carmel creme brûlée. It was one of the most magnificent things I’ve ever tasted. They use a special ingredient that makes it way...

Phoenix – Day 1

Phoenix – Day 1

Phoenix- Day 1 We were fortunate enough to start our day at an indoor event. The Sky mall was hosting a Back to School and Health Fair. The Boys and Girls club was handing out information on their programs along with 20 other local organizations dedicated to improving the lives of children in the community. We were happy to get to know the people and organizations away from the sweltering Arizona heat. Children collected signatures and stickers at different booths to win prizes such as backpacks, school supplies, and fun books with an...

Los Angeles- Day 2

Los Angeles- Day 2

Los Angeles- Day 2 After all the farmers markets we’ve been to, we would like to think we are some what close to being experts on the subjects. The Santa Monica Farmers Market was definitely one of the best markets we have been to in all our travels. There were blocks of vendors with every kind of fresh fruit or vegetable you could want. We always enjoy meeting workers and locals and hearing their stories or causes they are supporting. We met some women volunteering their time for UNHCR and raising awareness about the need for more aid for...

Los Angeles- Day 1

Los Angeles- Day 1

Los Angeles- Day 1 We started our adventure in LA as thousands do everyday-sitting in traffic on the parkway. We made a quick stop to pick up a shipment with more of our safe, natural bug repellent lotion. Our first event of the day was the farmers market in Pasedina. It had a friendly vibe and a Latin flavor. Mara was happy to practice her Spanish as we shopped and shared our samples. The third annual Taste of the Farmers Market was going off at The Original Farmers Market in West Hollywood. We got there before the event started so we...

San Francisco- Day 2

San Francisco- Day 2

San Francisco- Day 2 We have decided…California love us and the Safe Spray girls love California. We walked out to a bustling city, sun shining, and the perfect breeze blowing. As we trekked over to the famous Fishermans Wharf, we inhaled the smell of the ocean as tourist crowded the streets to take in the beauty of the bay. We quickly made friends with many of the sailors selling trips that circle the famous island or Alcatraz juxtaposed by the breathtaking views of the ocean lined with densely populated piers. We gave samples to...

San Francisco- Day 1 When we walked out onto the street in San Francisco we were happy to feel the cool air of the city compared to the scorching heat we had just left in Sacramento. We grabbed a hooded sweatshirt and headed to the Crocker Galleria Farmers market. We walked past a loud group of protesters holding picket signs and beating drums. The farmers market was quaint and we enjoyed samples as we passed out our samples.     We headed for an even larger farmers market at the Ferry Plaza. There were lots of food vendors all...
